Logan mayor sees power projects as big goal for 2011

Logan Mayor Randy Watts believes the year just ending has been a good one for the city and he also expects a lot of positive things to happen in 2011.On KVNU’s Crosstalk show earlier this month, Watts said he is excited about what is happening with power and the city will soon get Substation Number 5 near Campbell Scientific. Also, he says, a turbine is currently being built at Dewitt Springs.”Jeff White, our department head, has been looking at Porcupine and we’ve got a letter of intent (to move forward),” Watts said. “We’re going to have a consultant go to Porcupine Dam, which has not produced power for many years. “It’s basically a turbine that has gone defunct for whatever reasons. We’re going to go in and evaluate that.”Watts says if it proves to be affordable, work will proceed to re-do Porcupine Dam in order to bring more renewable power to Cache Valley.
