Three injured in Hwy 89-91 crash

Three people were injured in a crash Tuesday night at the intersection of 800 West and U.S. Hwy 89-91. Logan Asst. Police Chief Jeff Curtis says at approximately 7:40 p.m. 69-year old Rulon Johnson of Mendon, and his 68-yr old wife Margaret, crossed the highway in their vehicle and were struck by a northbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by 28-year old Kelly Bair of Logan.Curtis says it appears Johnson didn’t see the Blazer coming. Bair reportedly tried to avoid a collision but was unable to and struck the vehicle at the doorpost on the driver’s side. Curtis says it is fortunate the Johnson’s were in a newer vehicle outfitted with doorside airbags. When emergency officials arrived they pried the two vehicles apart and cut away the Johnson’s vehicle in order to extricate them. Curtis says all three people were wearing seatbelts and were conscious and alert at the rescue. Neck and torso injuries were reported, along with cuts and bruises. All were transported to Logan Regional Hospital. Curtis says traffic was slowed to one lane while the accident was cleaned up.
