High School Final: Mountain Crest lone valley school advancing

<strong>Logan @ Timpview</strong>

Timpview scored on three long 80-plus drives in first half to lead the Logan High Grizzlies 21-0 at the half. The Thunderbirds went on to win 48 – 21. The Grizz season comes to a end with an 8-3 record.

<strong>Payson @ Mountain Crest</strong>

The Mountain Crest Mustangs dominated the Payson Lions in the first round of the Utah State high school playoffs by a score of 52-6. Payson looked rather competitive at the start of the game but this soon faded as the Lions attempted a fake punt deep in their own territory. The failed fake resulted in a Mountain Crest touchdown and the Mustangs didn’t look back after that. A notable play, after a Mountain Crest turnover, was a forced fumble by the Mustangs that was picked up and returned for a 44 yard touchdown by Mitton. The Mustangs will play East who beat Westlake Friday night. East will travel to Mountain Crest next Friday, Nov. 5, time to be determined.

<strong>Desert Hills @ Bear River</strong>

In what was easily the best first round playoff game in any classification, Desert Hills Thunder and Bear River Bears slugged it out for four quarters and two overtimes. In the end, it was Desert Hills finding a way to win 15-14. The two teams, which usually can light up the scoreboard, let the defense slug it out. Bears took the lead on a TD pass in the second quarter and it would stand at halftime and through the third quarter. Desert Hills would mount a drive off of a Bear River fumble and find the endzone on a short run. In the first overtime, the Thunder threw a interception on their second play, but the Bears couldn’t capitalize missing a field goal and sending it to a second overtime. The Bears would start with the ball and score on their first play with a TD pass from Bubba Miller and it was 14-7. Desert Hills put together a drive and scored on a short run, then called a time out which hinted they were going for the win. On the 2pt conversion, Desert Hills sent a man in motion who set to block for a moment but then took off to the corner of the endzone and was all alone for the winning catch. Desert Hills will travel to Delta and the Bears will prepare for basketball season, which for them begins November 23.
