Vehicles crash at dangerous Providence intersection

Two vehicles were involved in a crash Thursday afternoon at a dangerous intersection in Providence that some are saying needs a traffic control light. The crash was at 1700 S. State Road 165 near Edwards Furniture just after 5 p.m.. There appeared to be no major injuries as a result of the crash, but the intersection is a busy one where east/west traffic often has to “dart” across the highway to avoid high-speed traffic between Hyrum and Logan.Traffic was impacted by the crash for a short time, but reportedly was flowing well again by 5:30 p.m.Bracken Berger was at the scene of the crash and had a chance to speak with a business owner in the area who indicated that it was his understanding the Utah Department of Transportation was planning to install a stop light at the intersection in the coming years.Providence Mayor Ron Liechty made the announcement in the city’s April newsletter. “We are excited to let you all know that after many years of pleading and the efforts of many, the Utah Department of Transportation have given us notice that the traffic light at the intersection of Hwy 165 and 300 South has met warrant. (This is the intersection by Edward’s Furniture store on the Hwy.). It is in the planning stage and we will keep you all posted as to the progress.”
