Logan council supports boundary initiative

For the second time members of the Logan Municipal Council have voted unanimously for a resolution which supports the Fair Boundaries Commission. Although the resolution does not specifically mention “Fair Boundaries” it states support for creation of an 11-member commission to recommend boundary lines to the Utah Legislature. In September the council voted unanimously for a similar resolution but it was decided to vote again because two new members, Holly Daines and Dean Quayle, are now on the council. Supporters need to gather 95,000 signatures in order to get the Initiative on the ballot in November. The thrust behind the initiative is a desire to eliminate gerrymandering when drawing up legislative districts. Although the independent commission would draw up the boundaries the Legislature would still give the final approval.
