Hyde Park man dies in crash

A 19-year old man died in a crash last night at the light in Hyde Park at 3700 North Main. North Park Police Srg. John Italasano says Jacob Hawkes of Hyde Park was traveling northbound in his Ford Ranger pickup truck when the car in front of him stopped for a changing light. Hawkes appears to have swerved around the vehicle and hit a truck and trailer making a left-hand turn through the intersection. Italasano says the impact caused Hawkes’ truck to roll, ejecting the ATV which landed on the lawn of the Maverick gas station. He says the truck rolled three or four times and ejected Hawkes as well. It appears he wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Hawkes was transported to Logan Regional Hospital and then taken by air to an Ogden hospital where he died a short time later. Italasano confirmed Hawkes is the nephew of North Park Police Chief Kim Hawkes. He said it’s always difficult to deal with a fatality, but when it involves family, it’s especially hard.
