Emergency crews are continuing to looking for a swimmer who went under the water and never resurfaced at Newton Dam Saturday night.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen confirmed that Search and Rescue crews and deputies responded to the possible drowning just after 7 p.m.

According to reports, a caller phoned 911 claiming a man was swimming in the reservoir, went under the water, and never came back up. He could not be found by other individuals who were swimming with him.

It was not known what may have caused the man to go under, but he may have been intoxicated at the time.

Sheriff Jensen said it’s early in the investigation and more information will be released once they locate the swimmer.
